Pitcher Rick Miyamoto held hard hitting Waialae to only 2 hits and took a shut out into the 9th inning while Johnny Gentry had 3 hits & 2 RBI and Colby Ho had 2 hits to lead McCully to a 6-2 victory over defending champion Waialae in the Championship game and clinch the 2012-13 Oahu AJA Baseball Association Championship, earning the berth to the Hawaii State AJA Baseball Championship Tournament. McCully jumped out to an early lead, widening its lead with a 3 run 7th inning, taking advantage of unlikely Waialae errors and a balk, then held on as Waialae rallied in the 9th inning. McCully pitcher Nolan Kometani relieved starter Rick Miyamoto after Waialae loaded the bases with 1 out. Kometani got the final out after giving up 2 runs on a fielder’s choice and run scoring single and walking the bases loaded to put the tying run at the plate.
It is McCully’s first championship since 2003 and ended Waialae’s 3-year reign as league champion. Congratulations to McCully and good luck at the state tournament!
