In the Opening Day’s 2nd game of the day, Oahu (Sheridan Midas) defeated Hawaii (Big Island Waiakea Pirates) 9 to 3 as starting pitcher Randyn Rios (Sheridan) held the Big Island to 2 runs in 6 1/3 innings. Relief pitcher Zach Gushiken finished the game’s last 3 2/3 innings, retiring 10 straight batters before allowing 1 run. The entire Oahu starting lineup had at least 1 hit with 4 players pairing hits. Lead off hitter centerfielder Drayton Ito (Waialae) got on base 4 times in 5 plate appearances.
Oahu (Sheridan Midas) moves on to play Maui (Happy Hour) in the Championship game on Sunday. Maui defeated Kauai 14 to 2 in the 1st game of Opening Day.
