Gavin Okada Drives In Five As Oahu (Waialae) Defeats Kauai )Makaweli)

Gavin Okada would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Sunday, driving in five on three hits to lead Oahu (Waialae) past Kaua`i (Makaweli) 11-4 on Sunday. Okada drove in runs on a double in the first, a double in the fourth, and a home run in the seventh.

Oahu (Waialae) opened the game scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kimo Wilinski drove in Drayson Ito with a double. Okada later doubled to drive in Wilinski & Kyle Watase, who got on base on an error. Mark Okano promptly doubled to drive Okada.

Kaua`i (Makaweli) answered with three runs in the top of the second inning. Kailen Pablo-Otoman drove in DJ Lacaden with Kauai’s first run with a sacrifice fly. Taryn Tani singled to drive in Curtis Sadamitsu & Bryson Poai in the frame.

Kauai (Makaweli) tied the score at 4 to 4 in the top of the third when Lacaden got on base by HBP and Sadamitsu doubled him in. Oahu (Waialae) pulled away for good with one run in the third inning as Mark Okano doubled on a 1-1 count, driving in Okada who got on by error.

Oahu (Waialae) stretched out their lead, scoring 3 runs in the 4th inning as Jordan Murai doubled, Wilinski walked, then Watase doubled Murai home with Wilinski stopping at third. Okada promptly doubled both Wilinski & Watase home.

Oahu continued their onslaught, scoring 2 runs in the 7th on a solo homer by Okada followed by a double by Okano and pinch-hit singles by Brede Kochi and Kip Masuda.

Oahu completed their scoring with a single run in the 8th by singles by Wilinski and a RBI single by DJ Andrade.

Okano toed the rubber for Oahu (Waialae). The bulldog earned the win, gutting through seven innings, allowing five hits and four runs (only 2 earned) while striking out two, walking one but hitting 7 batters.

Tevin Shigematsu was on the hill for Kaua`i (Makaweli). The bulldog went seven innings, allowing ten runs (only 7 earned) on 11 hits, striking out three and walking one. Travis Shigeta threw one inning out of the bullpen.

Oahu (Waialae)saw the ball well today, racking up 13 hits in the game. Okada & Okano with 3 hits apiece, and Wilinski with a pair led the Oahu (Waialae) hit parade. Oahu (Waialae) tore up the base paths, as Okano & Wilinski players stole two bases each. 

Taryn Tani went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Kaua`i (Makaweli) in hits.
