It was a thrilling start to the Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship Tournament on Sunday, March 1.
Game #1 featured #4 Pearl City vs. #5 Manoa. Pearl City received 8 strong innings from Daven Hermosura on the mound and overcame an early 3-0 deficit then withstood a Mikey Nagamine grand slam home run in the top of the 9th inning to beat Manoa 9-8. Kip Masuda smoked two home runs in the win for Pearl City.
Game #2 between #3 Waialae and #6 Mililani went to 11 innings and was finally settled when David Chu pushed a bunt between 3 defenders and allowed the runner to score from 2nd base to pull off the victory.
The championship tournament resumes Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as #1 Waipahu hosts #4 Pearl City at Hans L’Orange and #2 McCully is the home team against #3 Waialae at CORP#4.
Winners advance to play on Wednesday, March 4, 7 p.m. at CORP while the losers face an elimination game on Thursday night, 7 p.m. at CORP.
