#1 Waipahu 7 – 1 #5 McCully @CORP 6:30pm DOUBLE ELIMINATION PLAYOFF Game #4

Waipahu defeated McCully 7 to 1 in Game #4 of the Double Elimination Playoff.  In the 1 hour 45 minute game, Waipahu’s Shaun Kiriu pitched a masterful 9 innings on 83 pitches, outdueling McCully’s Shayne Nakata gutty 8 inning on 101 pitches performance.  Kiriu allowed 4 singles. striking out 3. walking 1 with 2 hit by pitch & stranded 6 McCully runners.  Nakata gave up 8 hits, striking out 2, walking 3 with 2 hit by pitch.  Waipahu stranded only 3 baserunners as Nakata was aided by 4 double plays.

Waipahu scored 2 runs in the 1st inning to take the lead as the 1st 3 Waipahu batters got on base but a double play ended the rally.  McCully’s Nakata then proceeded to get the next 11 Waipahu batters out to get into the 5th inning.  Waipahu’s Kiriu gave up a game opening base hit then retired the next 7 McCully batters.  In the 3rd inning, McCully scored 1 run on 3 hits, stranding 2 runners.  Kiriu shut out McCully over the final 6 innings, pitching to 22 batters, giving up no hits while stranding 3 runners.

In the 5th inning, no runs scored on 2 Waipahu hits as McCully turned another double play.  However with Waipahu ahead only 2 to 1, Waipahu broke the game open in the 6th inning, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits with a double play to close the inning.  Waipahu scored another run in the 7th inning to close out the scoring.

Waipahu advances in the Double Elimination Playoff to face the Game #8 Winner (Game #5 Winner [Sheridan v Manoa] vs Game #6 Winner [Waialae vs Mililani]) on Tuesday (3/12) @CORP 6:30pm.  McCully moves to Game #7 (Loser Out game) to face the Loser of Game #5 [Sheridan v Manoa] on Sunday (3/10) @Ala Wai 10am.
