It was a long, wild day of baseball that featured two games that ended in walk off fashion. In the first game, #2 McCully scored on a bases loaded walk to defeat Waialae 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning and propelled McCully into the 1 p.m. game.
In the second game, Colby Ho hit a two-run home run to tie the game up for McCully in the top of the 8th and Waipahu had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning but Shayne Nakata worked out of the jam to send the game into extra innings. Ironman Shaun Kiriu pitched all 10 innings for Waipahu who got a Zach Kometani base hit past a drawn in infield to score Derek Costigan and Waipahu advanced to the championship game with a 10-9 win.
The championship game is now set for Monday, March 17, 7 p.m. at Hans L’Orange as top seed Waipahu will face #3 Pearl City in a rematch from Friday night. It will be the fourth meeting between these two teams this year with Waipahu holding a 2-1 series advantage. Should Waipahu win, the two teams will meet Tuesday, March 18, 7 p.m. at Hans L’Orange for a winner take all game and the right to represent Oahu in the Hawaii State AJA Baseball Championship tournament on Kauai, April 5 and 6.
See you tomorrow at Hans!
