PLAYOFF: McCully 8 – 5 Waialae 03/03/13 Sun @Hans

On an idyllic sunny Sunday afternoon for baseball at scenic Hans L’Orange Park in the pivotal winner’s bracket game, #1 McCully defeated #2 Waialae 8 to 5 behind the combined clutch hitting of Colby Ho and Ridge Carpenter and pitching efforts Keanu Sato, Nolan Kometani & Scott Uehara to hold off the hard hitting defending champion Waialae.  The game featured outstanding power hitting and defense by both teams as Waialae’s Mark Okano homered deep over the trees in left field while McCully’s Colby Ho hit a towering fly to the 400 foot marker in the deepest part of Hans L’Orange only to have centerfielder Mark Okano jump and bang against the fence to haul it in.  McCully pitcher Kometani held off rallying Waialae in the crucial 6th inning in relief of pitcher Rich Miyamoto who left after one pitch due to injury.  Waialae mounted a final rally in the 9th inning, scoring one run with the bases loaded, only to have pinch hitter Nolan Tokuda line out into a game ending double play.  Tokuda had earlier been hit by a pitch from reliever Scott Uehara but was called back to the plate by the umpire to continue batting.

McCully moves on to the Championship game on Sunday March 10 10am @ Hans while Waialae faces #4 Waipahu in an elimination game on Wednesday March 6 @ Hans 7pm, with the winner moving on the face McCully on Sunday and the loser out.
